Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) Establishes Chapter at Syracuse University

Tonight will mark the first meeting of Syracuse University's newest student organization, Young Americans for Liberty.  This nationwide movement, inspired by Ron Paul's campaigns, has put in an enormous effort to ensure that the cause of liberty continues to thrive in the hearts of young people. As I have mentioned in previous posts, Dr. Paul himself has made it a priority (both during and after his campaign) to visit college campuses, and engage students to care about the future of their country; a fate which rests more or less entirely in their hands.
I was honored to be chosen as one of the SU chapter's founding members, and I hope that we succeed in our goals.  With liberty, honesty, morality, and most importantly the Constitution to guide us, I am sure that we will live up to the expectations set before us and make a real difference in the fight for freedom.

Libertarians weigh in on Nationwide Debate over Gay Rights

In anticipation of the upcoming Supreme Court decision on the Defense of Marriage Act, many questions and debates are being sparked about the definition of marriage.  According to many, most notably the Roman Catholic church, marriage is strictly defined as being between a man and a woman.  It is a sacred covenant, and violating it in any way is considered a terrible sin.  On the opposite end, many are opposed to the church's views and want a federal law which will officially declare homosexual marriage to be legal nationwide.
From a libertarian perspective, we look most closely not at the issue of what the definition of marriage is, but more so that the federal government is once again meddling where they do not belong.  Though it tends to be overlooked the tenth amendment to the Constitution is quite clear when it says that any power not specifically given to the federal government in the Constitution is left up to the states and the people to decide.  However, as usual, people do not seem to be concerned with what the Bill of Rights has to say.  In our arrogance, we always seem to feel that our views are the best, and that legislation must be made so that everyone makes the "right" decision.  This point of view has caused many problems in the past, and it undoubtedly will in the future.
On the issue of gay marriage, it is another simple concept in the eyes of libertarians: unlimited freedom so long as you do not infringe upon the freedoms of others.  It does no harm to an individual or their liberties for their neighbor to be gay or to get married, so why does it matter? Freely consenting adults should have the ability to choose what to do with their lives, including who they want to marry. But to make a federal law defining marriage undermines the constitution and dangerously dulls the line keeping government out of religion.  I only hope that we tread especially carefully over the next few weeks, and that the final outcome is in the best interest of everyone.

Rand Paul takes 13-hour stand against drone warfare

Yesterday, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky spent 13 straight hours on the Senate floor filibustering the appointment of John Brennan to the CIA. This was supposed to be a protest against President Obama's domestic use of predator drones.  Despite not being very popular in the Senate, he was joined on the floor by a handful of Constitutionalists from both houses of Congress in his show of solidarity.  He spoke until he could speak no more, finally winding down at around 1 oclock this morning.
So why go through all of this? According to attorney general Eric Holder, Obama has the authority under US law (not the Constitution, mind you) to target and kill American citizens on our soil.  This would be accomplished by use of unmanned aerial vehicles, more commonly known as predator drones.  Drones have already been used to strike down entire villages overseas, an action which is defended under the auspices of "killing terrorists", or "protecting our welfare".  Now, our illustrious President has brought the horror of drone warfare right to our doorstep, undermining our fourth amendment right, not to mention our basic inalienable right to life! He has promised on a few occasions that he would never use these war machines on Americans, but we all know that men do not grant themselves power if they do not plan to use it.
A tip of the hat is due to Rand Paul and the Constitutionalist conservatives in their fight for our liberties.  Continue to stand strong, despite the odds!

R3volution Persists Despite Obama Re-election; Paul to Start College Tour

It was a dark day for liberty-lovers across the country last August when Mitt Romney was officially declared the 2012 Republican Candidate, the sad but inevitable consequence of which being the re-election of Barack Obama in November.  We all knew it would turn out that way, with uninformed Americans being left with the choice of whether they wish to enter the slaughterhouse through the left or right gate.  Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson showed decent results, recieveing about 1% of the popular vote, but the 2012 election without Ron Paul's name on the ballot was severely dissappointing and infuriating.
However, despite the establishment's best efforts to keep the liberty movement censored, Ron Paul's R3volution has made a major impact on millions of people nationwide.  His message of Constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility and sound money has especially hit home among the youth.  During his 2012 campaign, Paul saw many of his largest crowds on college campuses; some even had students climbing nearby trees just to hear his words when all of the seats filled up! And now, even after the campaign has been long ended, thousands of people still thirst for his message of liberty and common sense.  For this reason, Paul has dedicated most of 2013 to touring colleges across the country (no easy feat for a 77 year old man, mind you) to spread the ideas which have made him admired and adored by his fans, and feared by the greedy beaurocrats in Washington.  In April 2012, I had the great honor and privelege of traveling to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY to hear one of Dr. Paul's famous speeches, and I was absolutely blown away by the passion which was exuding from the crowd.  Over 4,000 people were in attendance, some of whom (like my mother and I) had traveled over many miles on less than a week's notice to see and hear him speak.  The R3volution will continue, because, as Ron says, "Freedom is popular".

Romney clinches? I dont think so...

After the Texas primary votes were counted, news came out that Mitt Romney had received over 1,144 delegates, the amount needed to clinch the republican nomination.  But how could that be, when Paul continues to clinch states and get more and more delegates and party members on his side? As usual, the numbers in this equation are faulty. And here is the reason:
After each individual primary or caucus was held (the results of which were fraudulent), the GOP estimated the number of delegates that each candidate would secure based on the percentage of votes they received.  However, according to federal law, all delegates are UNBOUND until the republican national convention in Tampa this August. After researching a more accurate estimate, i discovered that, based on the delegate count in the states thus far, Romney has about 600 delegates compared to Paul's 200.  However, as Paul continues to change the fabric of the Republican Party and the minds of people everywhere, the amount of anti-Romney delegates will most likely be enough to keep him from securing the nomination.   But then again, it all comes down to how the freelance delegates vote at the convention.  With any luck, the grassroots R3VOLution will take a strong hold in Tampa, and Romney will have to answer to a crowd of angry Americans.

America's Best Blogging Scholarship: Why Ron Paul has my vote

"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" are things that we are supposedly guaranteed as American citizens.  They are rights that we hold dear, and often take for granted.  These rights define a free society, and are in place to protect the people from the meddlings of the government.  However, we as Americans have destroyed the free state which our founding fathers worked tirelessly to create.  Even though they were considered "treasonous" for rebelling against the corrupt British monarchy, they knew that their trials in the eighteenth century would "ensure the blessings of liberty to [themselves] and [their] posterity" (Preamble to the Constitution).  Now, over 200 years later in 2012, we are left to make a decision on who we trust to lead this country back to its former glory without forsaking the inalienable rights of our citizens.  I, personally, have made a decision to cast my vote for Doctor Ron Paul.  Of the four remaining Republican candidates, Ron Paul has been the only one who consistently voted against any resolution, democratic or republican, which contradicted the Constitution.  Dr Paul believes that life is sacred and would never perform an abortion; he believes that thouroughly patting down innocent citizens at airports IS sexual assault; and, most important of all, he understands that liberty is an American's most important asset, and must be preserved.  I place my trust in Dr Paul's capable hands, because I know that he is the only candidate who can keep his promise and restore America now.  Blogging Scholarship
